GMI is a specialised organization with expertise and services in the following key areas:

  • Development of effective environmental awareness, campaigns and education programmes to curb Climate change and desertification.

  • Capacity building and training, management inputs and support to communities, government institutions and other CBO’s/NGO’s

  • Support and development of afforestation projects.

  • Natural resources/biodiversity conservation and wildlife management.

  • Integration of protected areas with local communities and government institutions in participatory management and development of sustainable livelihood plans.

  • Developing grassroots initiative, talents and action plans.

  • Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of development project and interventions.

  • Design and development of sustainable waste management

  • Technical and economic handling of ecotourism projects and development

  • Environmental research, database development and statistics.

KEY ACTIVITIES OF 2019

TREE PLANTING AND SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME

Tree planting and sensitization programme tagged “Trees for Clean Environment” was carried out by Green Mobilisation Initiative in collaboration with Parks and Recreation Department of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Another key stakeholder of this event was the FCT Secondary Education Board -the regulatory body for secondary education in the FCT. Trees were planted during the exercise in the benefiting schools. At the events were present a delegation from Parks and Recreation Department, led by Mr. Sanchi and from the FCT Secondary Education Board was the representative of the Board Chairman, Mr Adamu Baba, Deputy Coordinator

 G R E E N M O B I L I S A T I O N INITIATIVES GRANTED UN E C O S O C S P E C I A L  CONSULTATIVE STATUS IN 2019

Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at its Coordination and Management meeting of 06 June, 2019 adopted the recommendation of the C o m m i t t e e o n N o n – G o v e r n m e n t a l Organization (NGOs) to grant special  consultative status to Green Mobilisation initiative.

4) PARTICIPATION AT INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

Green Mobilisation Initiative participated at the UNFCCC COP25 in Madrid, Spain from December 7 to 12, 2019. This was achieved through a nomination by an observer organisation Environmental Law Research Institute LTD/GTE.

 Green Mobilisation Initiative in conjunction with Green Nigeria Campaign project provided seedlings and mobilised members within the FCT and satellites communities of Nyanya and Mararaba which took place at City College of Education, at Abacha Road, Mararaba on the 24th August, 2019. In attendance were GMI members, Volunteers, School Management and Mr. Tabi Joda ( Project coordinator, Greening Nigeria Campaign).
